Suspended like a floating volume of light, the Drop Paper Lamp merges historical craft with modern form, offering a serene and ambient illumination. Its seamless application of large washi sheets, traditionally used for sliding doors and folding screens, brings a sense of spatial lightness and artisanal purity. Originally designed for K5’s layered hospitality interiors, the Drop Paper Lamp embodies a quiet, timeless elegance that can enrich any living environment.

Drop Paper Lamp
The Drop Paper Lamp, designed by Time & Style for the K5 hotel in Tokyo, is a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Inspired by the iconic Suifu lantern techniques, the lamp features a delicate yet resilient shade crafted from Echizen washi paper—a material celebrated for its 1,500-year history, natural durability, and warm, inviting texture. The use of long, thick Japanese mulberry fibers ensures both strength and a distinctive tactile quality.
In the forests of Hokkaido, the northernmost of Japan’s main islands, the freezing winters slow the growth of trees, permitting the development after many years of high quality, dense timber. Time & Style taps into time-honored customs practiced by artisans involved in the construction of Japanese shrines and temples, an important activity with a history extending back over a millennium. This legacy is a major source of inspiration for Time & Style as it seeks to create a collection of modern furniture marked by authenticity and a deep appreciation for the past.

Drop Paper Lamp by Time & Style is a pendant crafted with Echizen washi and Suifu lantern techniques, blending Japanese tradition with contemporary design purity.
