Molteni&C

Palinfrasca

Rooted in Luca Meda’s 1994 design and reinterpreted by Molteni&C with expert craftsmanship, the Palinfrasca sofa is a sculptural and modular outdoor system that celebrates teak’s natural beauty. Part of the Landmark Collection, it features a solid teak frame with gently curved lines, rounded pillars, and artisanal joinery that transforms structure into function—such as the backrest joint doubling as a slim shelf.

Generous seat and back cushions, upholstered in weather-resistant, quick-draining outdoor fabric, offer immersive comfort and luxurious softness. The seat features moulded polyurethane foam with variable densities for lasting ergonomic support, while the repositionable back cushions come in two sizes for adaptable use and expressive composition.

A woven backrest in teak or olive-green EVA polyurethane completes the design, blending Mediterranean craftsmanship with modern resilience. The system includes multiple sofa widths, end modules, chaise longues, a deep-seated compact version, a dramatic circular island, and complementary armchair and pouf elements—allowing endless outdoor configurations.

Meet the designer
Vincent Van Duysen

Born in 1962 in Lokeren, Belgium, Vincent Van Duysen studied architecture at the Higher Institute of Architecture Sint-Lucas in Ghent. Between 1986 and 1989, he gained valuable experience working in Milan and Brussels before establishing his own studio in Antwerp in 1990. His work seamlessly blends architecture and interior design, creating a symbiotic relationship between the two disciplines. Van Duysen’s designs for furnishings and accessories adopt an architectural mindset, prioritizing spatial awareness and the interaction between interior and exterior environments. By reshaping architectural proportions, he crafts designs that are pure, simple, and timeless, yet retain a tangible solidity and substance.

Van Duysen’s architectural practice has undertaken a broad range of noteworthy projects. These include his first venture into the Belgian hotel industry and an impressive portfolio of international work. Among his key projects are private residences in cities such as London, New York, and Milan, as well as offices in Beirut and Riyadh. He has also designed high-end commercial spaces in global capitals like Paris, Rome, and Hong Kong. Additionally, Van Duysen has collaborated with Molteni&C, creating iconic pieces such as the Gliss Master cabinet system and the Ribbon bed.
